Spice up your sprinkles!

I remember how excited I was to get married. There were many things that contributed to this excitement. One of the biggies was, of course, the registry. We had the fun of going around stores, armed with scanners, picking items that we “needed”. Everyone remembers how fabulous it is (mostly the ladies…all the men I have talked to dread it). Anyhow, I just HAD to have a spice rack. I assured my husband that since we were getting married we would spend a lot more time cooking and this would be PERFECT!

Well, almost five years later, I have come to the realization that we do not NEED the spice rack. We have only used a handful of spices and the others have gone bad. Did you know spices have an expiration date? I recently found that out! Well, being that the spices were expired, it was time to throw them out. So here I was with this great rack of little glass jars. What was a girl to do?

I soaked and cleaned the jars to rid them of the smell of various herbs and spices. I let the jars dry completely and then I filled them with all of my fabulous sprinkles and colored sugars. Not only does this provide a great storage for all of there items, it keeps them organized AND it looks great sitting on my counter. It adds a nice touch of color to my baking area.

Think twice before you toss out your spice racks! I am sure there are a ton of other uses, such as keeping small, misc crafting supplies like buttons, paper clips, safety pins, etc. What would you use it for?

The Begining of the Journey

You never really realize that you are letting yourself go until it too late. Until your pants no longer button, until walking the dog around the park tires you out or until you no longer find happiness in the things you once did. Then it seems as though it is a domino effect. You don’t look good, so then your self confidence goes down. Because you feel as though you look unattractive in ANYTHING you put on, you don’t want to go out anymore. Because you no longer want to go out (because having NOTING fit makes you feel worse about yourself), you loose touch with friends, miss out on celebrations and so much more.

I am devoting the next year to getting my life back. To get my body back, my confidence, my smile and my lust for living. I have made a commitment to myself, and you, to bettering myself through working on my body, mind and soul. Fitness, health and wellness, continued education and trainings, strengthening relationships with family and friends, and giving more to the world and the people in it. I want to reconnect with the things that bring me joy, laughter and smiles. I want to be able to walk into a room with my head held high, not because I look amazing (though that would be great too), but because I am totally and completely comfortable with and proud of the person that I am and the choices that I make.

I will blog about steps that I am taking to reach the goals, activities and outings that contribute to the success of these goals, setbacks, successes, things that make me smile, things that make me feel stronger and so much more. Knowing me, this will be a bumpy, uphill battle, but one worth winning. Now that I have made this promise to you, I am more accountable and have a little more pressure to make sure I follow through. But I thank you for taking the time, and the interest to join my on my Journey to a Better Me!
